    Tree Tubes and Burr Oaks

Hey all, I have on the way to me 100 burr oak seedlings, size 10 from Itasca Nursery. I am planning on planting these in an open area, as I am looking to reforest a section over time...My question has to do with tree tubes. What kind, what size, are they worth it? If you think it is worth...

Trees...visual barrier...norway, white pine, white spruce question??

Hey Guys, The number one priority on my property is creating a visual barrier to a 4 acre area that is the primary food plot location on my property. It is wide open and way too visual. The deer avoid it like the plague during daylight hours...and there is the constant threat of poaching...

LC mix in the spring and summer

Last fall, I planted the LC mix. Now the rye and oats are about 5 feet tall and the red clover is doing nicely. What do I do with it now? My thought was just to leave it until fall, then mow, spray, disc and plant my fall crop. What do you think? Thanks, mike

    Protecting young apples and crabs

I am embarking on my first tree planting project this weekend. I have about 18 crabs that will arrive from Northern Whitetail Crabs on Friday...My plan is to buy 200' of 60" welded fencing, and create 4 foot diameter protection cages for the trees so the deer don't destroy them. I have two...

    basswood planting

Hey Everyone, I know the basswood doesn't get much love...but I love it. It grows fast, hinges awesome, stump sprouts like crazy, and the deer love to eat it. That is why I am considering planting a bunch of them along with white pine and white spruce in a clearcut area of my property. My...

How to plant and protect white cedars

I am going to order a few cedar trees and plant them down near my swampy areas of my property. If they die, I will know for the future...but it would be interesting if they live. I will just try to cage them and hope that keeps the deer and rodents off of them.

    Hickory Trees

Hickories may not be the absolute best tree for deer...but remember we are managing for a healthy ecosystem in general. The nuts are relished by squirrels and rodents, and the bark of the shagbark provides important nesting cover for certain species of birds, bats, and owls. I have lots of...
