    Rubbing tree

Yeah it’s a white pine. White pines are the go to rubbing tree on my acreage, they’ve hit them hard for 20 years, that’s why I plant 20-30 every year. If there’s a 2,3,4” diameter tree next to a trail, eventually it’s going to get browsed or beat! I have a love/hate relationship with deer! If they...

    Rubbing tree

Will do. That tree is between 2 other white pines I planted 18 years ago, they haven’t been rubbed and are 12-15” diameter, rubbing definitely slows down growth and they never really recover and if the do heal a good wind gust will take down.

How to Turn Old Hay Field Into Deer Habitat

I did the same to a 3 acre pasture grass field and the regrowth of broadleaf and volunteer trees was phenomenal. Goldenrod, native grasses, wild plum and apples filled the void. I’m now hinge cutting undesired trees for deer browse and every time I walk through it I kick up deer that are bedded...

DIY "not to do tip" of the day with black walnut nuts for planting

Same thoughts too. I’m collecting a couple buckets of yard walnuts this week to bring down to the property. Many times I’ve dumped 2-3 buckets next to a tree near the deer stand, they don’t last more than a couple weeks, squirrels eat and bury them,I have walnut trees coming up everywhere, mission...
