I tubed my bareroots the first year and they quickly out grew the tubes. Switched to cages and growth slowed alot. They have been in the ground 10 years and Id probably be comfortable removing cages, but I just let the deer eat all the sprouts and new growth that stick out of the cages...which...
At what age can you let deer safely browse them without killing the plant? I was hoping that after about 3 yrs I could uncage them and the deer would just eat new growth (similar to pruning) but leave the main older stalks alone preserving the plant...too optimistic in area with alot of winter...

I have a source for ROD cuttings although the plants don't seem to grow as tall or get as brilliant red as that video. I have never seen yellow twig and I'm looking to order some. Big Rock sells them but minimum 25 per order and I dont really need that many
I am going to do this. Not sure about the landscape fabric though....seems like the fabric would encourage voles to live there and chew up the dogwoods especially since they are caged.
