If I had more time I would love to team up with you and perfect an after market product to solve this issue. I’m not sure how big of a potential market there would be for it with the number of 3pt drills out there.
I am still waiting to see just how the leaning affects the germination from this...
I was thinking the same thing on the center drive wheel design. I have a lot of hills and slope on the fields I plant and notice the drill will lean to either side when I plant. I have my stabilizers as tight as I can and have the drill centered behind the tractor. I was thinking maybe trying...
When I planted the buckwheat in spring I didn't seem to have this problem. I'm wonder if the seed shape has something to due with it. I know the openers have a lot of travel and the rubber drop tubes need to compensate for that, but I would think they could have come up with a better rubber drop...
Not sure if I should have started a new thread or not but I replanted the buckwheat field with oats in the main seed box and a clover mix in the small seed box. I'm a little concerned with how the seed placement seems a little spotty. See pictures below. I'm trying to figure out why and I'm...
I'm not sure if it can be controlled with 2,4db or not. I never had much success with using it in my clover plots. Last time I sprayed it, i had issues with it hurting the clover. Maybe next spring I'll try 24d in the left over rye from this fall.
Right now my number one weed I'm dealing with is wild Buckwheat or also call Black Bindweed. I've spent way too many hours hand picking this vine weed from hell at my place. Once the seeds are in the ground it's nearly impossible to get rid of. The only thing that slows it down is thick overhead...
Maybe I am overthinking this fall planting. I just worry about generating too much weed seeds or whether the grasses will over take and ruin the planting. I guess right now focusing on increasing OM is the goal. Weed control will come later.
Using the no till has really got me excited on how...
I like the idea of putting spray jets on the drill. I don't have time to mess with it this year but it might be a good winter project.
I might try doing the methods you mentioned on different sections of the field to help determine what works best and see just what the drill is capable of...
There definitely is some grasses growing in between the rows. I think if I could have sprayed the field later and planted when the soil was a little warmer, the cover crop would have been able to out compete the weeds better.
Here is a plot planted in Buckwheat. This is the best results I have ever had. Not sure if it’s due using the no till or just all the rain we have had. I planted it into a nice plot of clover that died over the winter due no snow cover. I got to think planting into the clove thatch did help. I’m...
I used my new 606NT great plains drill to plant my summer cover cops. I am in central Wisconsin Zone 4B with sandy soil. I ended up planting the summer over crops the second week of May, A little earlier than I wanted due to leaving for a month vacation.
The plot below is planted in Alberta...
I have a similar situation with a red pine plantation that was clear cut four years ago and I am trying to decide how I want to clear out some new food plots. About 15 years ago I did manage to clear out a 2 acre plot with a tractor loader backhoe on a 6 year old clear cut. Back then the trees...
If your heated floor is hydronic , you might be interested in this. I installed a hydronic heat system in the concrete floor of my little man cave in my pole shed years ago. Then a while back I inherited this wood stove and decided to install it here and integrate it to the hydronic heat. My...
