So all my sawtooths are bare along with the burs and just a few pears left hanging and the apple have been gone a week.Looked tonight and the only thing with fruit is the persimmions and those still have several weeks.I did plant 2 more grafted ones this week because I have alot more males than females. All the work for hard and soft mast and they are gone in a month.

Clover and wheat... year round draw.

I have a lot more oaks than you. Native DCO, Chinquapin, Burr, and reds/pin. They drop in sequence. Takes a month or so for them to disappear. Soft mass is unreliable for me. I still plant the damn things but still unreliable. I planted mostly persimmon last yr. Hopeful but my dad has some, they dissapear quickly.

The key is to plan your drop times to spread the drop. Persimmons are insect pollinated, so if you live in the native range of persimmons, you likely don't need any males. You might want to keep one or two, but I'd convert the rest to female. The named varieties are typically pretty early, but native trees have a wide range. I traded scions with other folks to try to get persimmons that drop throughout the season.

Like anything else, you also need sufficient volume based on your deer density.

THanks,

Jack

I have probably 50 oaks that are producing and several hundred more that are 5ft tall.I also have 10 or so pear and 10 apple trees that produce. What are some later varieties?
