New Apple trees

DiSc0Rd

5 year old buck +
My uncle is planning on brining me several apple trees next spring but I have no idea where to put them. The south east is our food plot, the open areas to the west are small pines left over from when it was for Xmas trees. I'll gladly cut them down as they don't look that great as is. Any suggestions....

I have had the same questions here at times. And the answer is so simple. Just plant the apple trees where they will meet your property goals and fit into your overall property plan. Ie; let’s say your goal is to determine where apple trees grow best on your property and you have ten trees then planting them in five to ten locations could test that out pretty well. Now if your goal is to grow an Apple tree forest that will double as a deer travel corridor to provide deer a safe and inviting access to your property then planting them all where the pines are might make sense. Of course it would just be a start toward the goal of having maybe a hundred or two hundred tree apple forest.

If your goal is to create a staging area to the food plot then all the trees together just off the plot works. Thus the question of why are planting Apple trees leads you easily to the WHERE answer.

Plant the apple trees where you want to shoot the deer.
I like the slot in the woods about half way up on the right side. That gives deer cover with the woods around but sunlight for the apple trees to grow.

I would plant them along the northern edge of your plot. Looks like the deer probably enter the plot from that funnel towards the south. A cluster of trees on the northwest corner of your plot might be good too. All depends how deer are using your property and how you can access the Apple tree plot without bumping the deer

That's a place i thought right now we are walking the main roads to get to all the stands. The far right road is currently blocked by a down tree it will be removed after the season. Be a full day of chainsawing to open the road
