Kiddy pool vs creek

5 year old buck +
I have 2 creeks that run through my property. If I were to put a kiddy pool in my plot do you think it would get used?

Dig a hole with your tractor if you have a low spot. My latest one was 10 x14 in size and it did not hold water so I added a rubber liner from Menards. I agree that a kiddie pool would not get used heavily as the deer seem to slowly adapt to them or a tank. The fact that you have creeks has little to do with them using the waterhole. Waterholes are primarily a social gathering spot in my opinion as NoFo has stated in other threads. Every deer on my property and the neighbors visit my waterholes on a regular basis from my camera evidence. I've seen larger deer numbers this year at the waterhole and I know they aren't all staying on my property.

Give a deer a choice between clean running water and a muddy/murky water hole and the deer will choose the muddy/murky water hole.

I have never noticed those liners at Menards.

Cost, weight, size?

I have had small water "tubs" placed near my salt licks for a couple of years now. We rely on rainfall to keep them partially filled. I cannot recall one ever being "empty". I have cameras at the sites.....and have pics showing the water tubs get used about 20% of the time the licks are visited.

We do not have a flowing creek.....but have about 4 woodland ponds and a large swamp that each hold water most of the year. The tubs work good for my purposes.

I've got a kiddie pool 200' from my swamp this year and it's got a lot of action on it from deer day and night (mostly does) and a couple squirrels.

My intention was to move that one up to the orchard with the apples, but it never made it. Now I think I'm going to leave it and move the other one that was 200' from it, but now I'm working on a bigger watering hole in that spot.

I have multiple scrape holes that hold water all year around. The ones that are near my creeks get little use. The one I have a couple hundred yards from my lake gets a lot of use.

I have an old pool that I could use or maybe I'll just dig a little hole next spring with the loader. If it gets used fine if not it won't take much to fill it in.

Does are hammering the kiddie pool that's outside my swamp this week. It's probably 600' from the lake.

Other than aesthetics, why bury them?

We have one made with the tractor front end loader(FEL) on the edge of food plots. Need to get a couple more in the woods on woods road edges. I try to pay attention to everything going on in the woods and plots. But I did miss how much of a social draw these are.
