Great Plains no till seeder

hillrunner

5 year old buck +
Does anyone have any experience with these or something similar? I've been searching for a no till drill to buy before the year is up but I'm struggling to find exactly what I want. This caught my eye because it comes in a 7' width which is what I want, looks like it weighs a little over 2,000 lbs which is about what I'd like and I trust Great Plains quality but don't really want to drop $20,000+ on a drill if I don't need to.
I also don't want to regret not going all out on the drill so here's my situation. I have a Deere 7000 that does a good job no tilling my corn and beans. I'm wanting to use a drill for grasses, alfalfa, brassicas, cereal grains (dbltree mixes), sorghum, and pretty much anything else I may decide to put in a plot besides corn or soybeans.
I've rented Great Plains drills a couple of times and they are awesome, but I've never even seen one of these seeders in person. Does anyone have any words of wisdom about them?

You can find these used for around 12K on tractorhouse or auctiontime.com,I have also been looking at the tye and the truax

Very similar to the Woods FPS and PSS seeders which look to be just as well made and cheaper.

Two people on here have the Woods units. Swampcat and DavidHemly. Dig through and read about their units. They both seem well pleased.

Thanks, I'll look for those posts. I did some looking online at the woods but I was able to find a great plains for significantly less.

Reach out to either of the guys. They are very helpful and always answer questions I have which are plenty.

HR - I looked at these (or perhaps similar to what you're referring to) as well, especially since we already have a good disc.

Land Pride APS1572 (6' wide) - adjustable spiked rollers, seed box(es) and cultipacker. I agree with you the upside to me is LP will have a better resale, better seed metering / cup assembly and long term reliability + product support than most food plot grade implements. Quoted $10k w/ legume seed box. Par on pricing with any of the woods, etc.. Weigh about 1100 lbs empty (w/o legume box), nice for a compact tractor especially if you have some grade / hills..

They also make a 1586 if you want 7'+ width..

They had a couple of these type seeders on one of the auction places online,They seem to sell cheaper than a no till.Don't really know how they would work with bigger seed

Yep, usually around 50-60% of the price. Beyond a chunk of change, a true no till drill requires a decent amount of tractor weight and HP. Especially if you want a 3 point mount.
