I love how bass taste. Both largemouth and smallmouth. Dont get many opportunities to eat them though.

^^^^I used to be a HUGE bass guy. Now I just catch them by accident and rarely target them. Was against my religion to keep them in the past. When I started fishing up by my hunting land about 12 years ago I would occasionally keep one, but I really dont like to eat them. Never as good as my crappies, and its extremely rare that I dont catch crappies if I wanna eat some fish. I really love crappies. The lakes by me have excellent bass fishing if a person wants to do that. I know a few I could probably easily catch 25+ 3lb bass in about 2 hours. Leech lake is filthy with them and if you hit it right you can really have a special outing. I'm always amazed how shallow of slop these guys hide in. I catch a ton from 0-2 feet of water. Scum frogs work awesome for me.

I still enjoy catching them when they get over 4lb., perfer spinning gear, and light tackle.

I don't normally eat bass either unless someone has a pond where they need thinned.
Lots of other fish I like to eat better, walleye/crappie/bluegill/perch/catfish/salmon...bass are sure fun to catch.

you need to live closer to salt water. I’ve had pickled bass. But that’s it for me. :emoji_laughing:

Where I fish, I catch mostly smallmouth and lake trout. Perch are hard to find and walleyes are hard to catch. I'm getting more and more brook trout, but max was 5 in a summer. Perch is probably my favorite, but the giant schools have either moved or disappeared since the influx of cormorants. The walleye are good but they're generally enormous and not as good eating as one would hope. Battered and deep fried bass is the crowd favorite. It's important to skin the filets, as bass skin tastes a bit funky.

I’ll post this here for the fisherman.
My youngest son started collecting River Runts a few years ago picking them up at gun shows and yard sales.
I started watching for them and get them for him for Christmas and birthday gifts.
Its getting harder and more expensive to find him different styles and sized ones he doesn’t have.

His little collection so far

I picked up a few wooden lures to try and peak my son’s interest in collecting. Hasn’t caught on yet. But it made me remember an old lure we found as kids that I actually caught a bass with. We were dumb kids and lost it.

I tracked one down.

“the virgin mermaid”. She would look good in your collection.

That is a sweet salt ride! Exactly what I would be doing if I wasn't putting my 3rd through college. At least they wont have any debt to start off with.

1 more payment on my last ones college career. That’s going to free up some funds for sure. Hate to say this but if I didn’t put cash in the market in March 2020 when the sky was falling this wouldn’t be happening. Not naming the boat Covid cash, but I should.

Sweet lookin rig! When are we gonna see you on Wicked Tuna Outer Banks?

better chance of seeing me on “clueless and confused”. This will be a whole new game for us. My son and I have zero experience where this will take us. But just like deer, it will be fun learning.

Nice collection of runts! I've spent many hours trolling flea markets and junk shops looking for Heddon lures. Tuffest for me to find have been the no snag.20210822_003003.jpg

Those are sweet!
Love the CrazyCrawlers those are my favorites, I still use wood ones when I night fish ponds. Nothing like that slow retrieve gurgling wing action, bass can’t resist and the big boys come out at night.

I finally found a good website for vintage lures at fair prices, already have both the boys Christmas presents from me bought ahead of time.

A big cobia , a bull shark, and a kingfish. I’m not one that’s picky. If it pulls back, I enjoy catching them. If it pulls back real hard, I enjoy it more.
