It’s not a drill and shouldn’t be confused with one. Depending on what you’re planting you can do so without conventional tilling, but it’s not a drill. I have a Woods PSS84 and planted wheat and radishes directly into a knee to waist high field last fall. The field was mixed weeds and not grass (was previously sunflowers but fallow for a year) though. After planting I sprayed the field. Excellent outcome. The wheat is thick and knee high right now. You can see the wheat and turnips coming up thick where the tires were. They’re coming up the same between the tracks you just couldn’t see it as well until it got through the killed vegetation.

I do it all the time, also with an 84” model. I typically spray a couple weeks ahead where I want to plant. I also plant wheat into existing clover in the fall. I run the disk gang where it disturbs about half the soil surface, leaving the other half uncut. I think it actually invigorates the existing clover. As said above, it is not a no til drill. But, it still does a great job with a little forethought. It also does some things a no til drill doesnt do, like smooth the soil surface - like if you have hog root. It is also a great piece of equipment to use on smoothing ruts and maintaining trails. I plant about fifty acres a year with mine - from clover to soybeans.

My next implement purchase will be the Woods seeder. I've used a Plotmaster for 10 years. And, I use the same process as described above - set disc gang to where it just breaks the soil and plant right into standing thatch after spraying with gly a few weeks ahead of time. Got several buddies that have the Woods seeder and they love it. Much more compact than my Plotmaster. Not is weight but in the overall footprint.

Are you sure you aren't thinking of the Woods FPS? That's the one with discs and a cultipacker. The Woods PSS line is just seed spillers on aerators essentially..

The FPS and PSS are essentially the same thing, the only real difference is that the FPS is a more compact frame. I have the PSS84 and it has disc gangs, spiked roller that runs the gears, and cultipacker. That being said, they offer the PSS without disc gangs as well...those units just have two sets of spiked rollers.

Yes. My bad. The Woods FPS with the cultipacker and discs.
