I think it’s underutilized because it’s not bulletproof to get established. It takes more work than something like clover or beans.

Do you have a lot of open canopy? In my experience the grasses only stick around for a few seasons until the next stage of successional growth takes hold. I just logged a section of my back woods and I have Johnson grass and a few cool season grasses but I expect their stay to be very short lived.

I like the rental ideal but I’d take it one step further and try to rent both the tractor and the flail mower to make sure that’s exactly what you want. I looked for a flail mower rental but couldn’t locate one.

I am sure there all types of draw bars but the one I have stuck in my head is one that attaches to the 3 point in the rear of my tractor.
