I grafted some apples in early April and one of the scions produced and apple! I was in shock yesterday when mowing a food plot and looked over to the edge and saw this.
When I mow I don't get off the tractor for much. But, this little guy deserved a stop and photos.
I have had a number of blossoms on grafts, but never a apple. Most of the time you would want to pick them off as it takes a lot of energy out of the scion and could potentially break the graft off. Though it is pretty neat.
Yea, I pick them when I can. It is one of those things that doesn't always get done. This tree in particular is in the far corner of a plot and is often forgotten in many ways. Perhaps this is its way of getting my attention.
