Winter Rye Dying

MATT

Yearling... With promise
How often does your winter rye not make it through the winter?
I'm located in west central MN and plant 2-3 LC ceral mix plots every year. I get great results in the the fall but often times, one of the plots will be barren in the spring while the others are thriving.
Is it sometimes just too cold in the winter or is this potentially indicative of another issue?
Thanks,

I have always had great luck with winter rye coming back in the spring at the farm in west central MN. I can't remember ever having an issue with it. Is it the same plot every year that doesn't come back?

Does this plot have good snow cover over the winter, or is it windblown and bare while the icy hand of the north freezes it beyond belief? A little snow cover throughout the winter and it should be fine. No snow and weeks on end of sub-zero temps could affect your spring crop.

I agree with Wiscwhip, extreme cold with no snow pack has killed mine over winter.

Im in the prairie/woodland fringe in West Central MN, I have always had my rye come up great in the spring.
