Winter peas, too early?

I have my plot ready in western pa, is it too early to plant my winter peas, oats, and sunflowers?

Yes, probably. End of August would be better

If you want them for attraction during the hunting season, I agree that waiting would be better. If you plant them now, there is a good chance that you will not have any winter peas OR sunflowers left for attraction during the hunting season. If you have any amount of deer numbers to speak of, once they get up a few inches and the deer find them, they will hoover them to the dirt.

Keep in mind that sunflowers are a warm season annual. They are typically spring planted, not fall planted. Having said that, because they are warm season annuals and come up quickly, they are a great early season attractant but once the frost hits they are done for. Keep this in mind when deciding your mix rate and include enough cool season seeds to fill in when the sunflowers die.
