Switchgrass Maintenence Question

Mike O

A good 3 year old buck
Got a great stand (End of second growing season) of switchgrass behind my house. Will the dead switchgrass thats now standing inhibit new growth next spring/summer? Everything I have read so far is to leave it alone and not burn until weeds/shrubs start to show up.

I kept mine mowed at about 12 inches for the first couple year, but if growing well I wouldn't hesitate to burn right before a rain in spring

I wouldn't hesitate to burn it in the Spring prior to the Switch greening up every 2-3 years.

It will grow right through the old stuff.

Sounds like the concensus here is to leave it alone next year and the old thatch won't supress new growth.
