Southern Habit folks

Just picked up 4 southern crabapples from Walmart this morning. They are from chestnut hill nursery where dunston chestnuts ( Food plot trees) are from. Bought them on a spur of the moment buy. Have no clue what the rootstock is, but am going to shoot them a message later. It says low maintenance on the tag is the reason for purchase. Any advice on planting would be greatly appreciated. They are thorny too.

Nothing I can think of special over any other apple tree. Cage them for protection. I like to use landscape cloth to keep competition down around the tree. If you have clay, make sure you don't plant them in a low spot where ground water can saturate them for long periods.
