I gave a go at some red oiser staking and they seem to be doing well despite the dry weather

Yep, I planted some whips this spring and before I got back a week later to cage them a fair amount were already nipped. They do look like they are doing welll!!
 
I planted yellow twig and silky this year. I caged 80% and left the other to just see if the deer noticed them.

Within a couple weeks the 20% got nipped but not too bad. Since then browsed pretty good.

I don’t have heavy deer population. My advice would be to cage if you want good growth.
 
Yes, several are already nipped so I should get some cage up. Thanks
