# of hacks per inch of DBH for H&S

DRG3

5 year old buck +
What is the standard number of hacks needed on a tree per inch of diameter using the Harper Mix (50% Garlon 3A, 40% water, 10% Arsenal AC). I plan to do a little this weekend for the first time.

Thanks in advance!

doing a little lunch break research I am reading 1 hack per every 2-3" of diameter. Answered my own question, but hope it helps someone else!

Make the hacks 3 inches apart all the way around.

Thats a great way to look at it. Thanks.

Also- Dr. Harper's guide is fantastic. Thank you!

There will be some variation from species to species and size of tree. I know on honey locust smaller dbh trees up to probably 6” the hack every 3” of circumference probably is sufficient but on larger trees near complete ringing is more effective.
