Oak tree identification

TxA&Mhunter

5 year old buck +
I got theses acorns from a guy in
Texas, Brazos county .
I go and pick up sawtooth off his place and he had a hand full of these from a tree he had found (but wouldn't yell Me where) in hopes I could if it.

I imedatly assume it's a white oak because the acorn is already putting out a radical.. but the leaf shape and lobes is giving me fits.

Any one have any thoughts?

Likely Chinkapin oak (Quercus muehlenbergii )

It has the hints of chinkapin but not as pronounced tips of the lobes...
I was thinking a possible chinkapin hybrid but not sure. I'll post better pictures of a a single leaf when I get home

I don’t really think it’s a chinkapin. What does the tree look like?

Have no idea if this is it, not showing to be from that area, but check out Quercus austrina or sinuata

I am not sure they are Chinkapin... I know they can be a little different as well. Mine here the ends are a little bit more of a point and more points... Chinkapin acorns ...again, here... are very small as well. Like the size of a dime or smaller. It could be some sort of a cross as well...

I'll snag some pics of it tomarrow.
After looking at the suggestions
I'm betting on Durand white oak

Thanks for the link^^^^^^

Coincidentally, from my same Post Oak Savannah Texas ecoregion

Definitely not any chinkapin oak I’ve ever seen.
