Maybe I'm too far north.

Yearling... With promise
Darn loblolly pitch hybrids just have a hard time up in northern Neb. Had a colder than normal winter and a lot of them showed signs of winter burn after Dec. They seem to be a tough tree once established so I'll wait and see come spring as the buds still look ok.

I tried them in Zone 4 - no luck. I had a few that made it a year or two, but eventually they all got taken out by the cold.

Nothing but Norway Spruce for me the last few years.

I tried them in central Wisconsin and had a few make it the first couple years but eventually they all died.

Lessons learned! I yanked a few last spring that didn't make it. Looks like they'll get replaced with Bull Pine.

Craziest trees I've ever seen. Scorched red, needles falling off, can't decide if they want to live or die but they're coming back from the dead I do believe. Guess I'll give em another year :) IMG_2936.JPG IMG_2937.JPG

Why fight mother nature? Plant native species that are acclimated to your region and you will have phenomenal success.
