Korean Pine!

Hello,

been thinking about Korean pine,

been told the nuts are edible?

any one been around them?

Thanks
John

I got some from Burnt Ridge Nursery and planted them near some white pines. Seem to be growing okay, but slowly. New York Botanical Garden has a few. Apparently most of the pine nuts you buy are from Korean Pine.

One of my favorite venison recipes is neopolitan meatballs. Pine nuts and raisins.

Saw a write-up about it on here.

I used to buy a bunch of Korean pine cones and pull them apart to snack on the pine nuts in Mongolia. Amazing trees, and tasty, healthy snacks. I wanted to plant some, but I was warned it can take decades to get your first pine cones. I forgot about the idea for a while until recently when I heard some grafted varieties can produce in less than 10 years. Haven't looked further into it yet.

Pine nuts? Who knew? The squirrels would love you.
