I am going to plant my first TnM food plot next month, it is only 1 acre, the first fall planting will only be WR, Clover and chicory, next year I want to plant brassicas in the fall.
I don’t have a tractor, and can’t really justify buying one, so if you had to pick just 1 4-wheeler implement to own, what would you buy?

I didn't have a tractor for years either,so would be a sprayer and a old section of drag harrow.Unless your deer have eaten brassicas before make sure you plant something else in case they don't eat them

If you could swing an all in one ground prep machine (plotmaster) I would do that. Not loyal to any brand just using that one as an example.

Dang, you guys like to spray lol I was thinking for TnM everyone was going to say cultipacker being that you can also crimp WR and other stuff with it.

I do have a sprayer in the mix, it is only 16 gallon but should be plenty to do 1 acre and the boom looks like it will cover nearly 8 feet per pass. I am hoping to spray as little as possible (hence the TnM) but understand that spraying is a necessary part of it, although I might have to relocate my honeybees that isn't a big deal.
I also have a 48" Swisher mower deck a friend is bartering with me to get, it needs a new motor but he isn't in as much of a hurry as I am unfortunately.

Hahaaa!! Believe me I would if I could justify the cost, I settled with upgrading a 4 wheeler because I can use that for everything (albeit the harder way). As a single Dad with custody, and a homeowner I don't get much extra cash for my toys and tools my friend.

I have never sprayed for weeds. Deer don't care. Hell, there have been tears that the weeds are my cover crop. Planting rye helps keep the weeds to a minimum. Also thick planting create a smother effect. Deer eat my plots and i eat the deer so i really don't want to eat any chemicals

If you could gets weeds down to a minimum a crimper is all you would need. Spraying will be a big part of that starting out however.

I am essentially doing just that. I had a situation this summer where weeds got out of control because of a thin stand of cereal and having a miss hap with my sprayer. I'm hoping that by next fall I can be chem. free in that one plot. After I get that plot under control I'll be doing the same in the next plot over. For now I still spray and will be taking it one plot at a time so I don't get spread to thin. My new position at work has greatly reduced my free time. I'm not even sure I'll be able to take a half day off this fall to hunt.

I agree a sprayer is very nice. Just to be different Ill go with buckdeer and say a drag section. Cheap, simple and so useful. It works great to knock down existing rye and weeds, its great for agitating the soil and helping with seed/soil contact. I use my drags all the time.... and my sprayer and my brush mower :) those are the 3 mains IMO. I have a nice King Kutter disc for my ATV but I rarely use it, I just havent found it makes my plots to be any better than I can do with my drag.

I only have a riding mower and getting a pull behind sprayer has been an enormous game changer for me. I would rather use a bag spreader than a backpack sprayer. I just so happen to also have a pull behind spreader, but if I had to pick one to drop, the spreader would go.

Plotting is so much more efficient and any invasives I can reach are in real trouble.

If you plan to do T&M and don't have a tractor, it would be a boom type sprayer.

I would go with an ATV cultipacker AND a sprayer

Cultipacker would be my second. You can cultipack with ATV tires if necessary.

I bought the sprayer, all I have is a lawn roller for now but I’ll keep an eye out for a cultipacker. I have 50 pounds of Buckwheat and 50 pounds of Sun Hemp to start the first planting in the 1 acre plot.

Theyre tons of TnM experts on here. Show us a close up pic of where you plan on planting. sometimes you need to be aggresive if you have some deeper thatch, or the ground is compacted alot.

What makes up for that is the mulch ontop of it. If you could wait until you got 18 inches of growth, spray it, put the seed in, roll it, then maybe mow and roll again. That should do it.
