Is this switchgrass?

I have noticed this growing in multiple locations, usually in areas marginally higher in elevation from areas with cattails. I picked a bag full of the seed heads to see it I can grow it for screening. The pics are from today so it is still standing after winter. Can you tell me what this is from the pics?

Not switch, likely phragmites. If they are the non-native type, they are highly invasive and will take over huge areas pushing out native species. There are a few types of native phrags, but the ones in your pics are likely the nasty non-native invasive type.

Thanks Wiscwhip, that explains where I found them (roadside ditches). I did not think it was planted but looked like it would make a good screen for lower areas. I'll destroy the seedheads I picked. Too bad, it would have been nice to get all that seed for free.

Lol, if it were only that easy no one would ever have to worry about a screen. ;)
