What about wood ashes from the fireplace for tree seedlings?

Perhaps non acid loving hardwoods?

I try not to give anything too harsh to young trees. I do use a lot of wood ash in my lawn and around more mature trees.

is it just too much of a hot shot of phosphorous for the younger trees in your opinion? I have some mature fruit trees and some younger ones and lots of wood ash to get rid of...

I think it's supposed to be high in potassium, but it also has an extremely high pH and can be caustic.
