ID apple please

My grandfather planted 4 trees probably 7-8 years ago. This is the first production we have had on any of the trees. Last year we pruned them which may have helped. The apples have a moderate hardness and are rather tart but still edible. Any insight in to what they might be would be great.IMG_1955.JPG IMG_1956.JPG IMG_1959.JPG IMG_1960.JPG

They are good looking apples, but I can't say for certain what the variety would be.

I thing those apples are not fully ripe yet. Lots of "keeper" type apples will be very hard and tart when harvested, but given a few months of storage will taste like completely different apples. There a lots of varieties that don't reach their best until at least after December or January. I would do some testing on a few of them and see how they keep and develop.

Nice looking crop - whatever they are.

I would compare them to haralson or haralred. Both are common for Ann.

If they are those strains, will they become more palatable as time goes on as Native Hunter suggests?

With the 5 trees we planted this year we have a total of 9 and this is the first to produce.
