Gold in MN!

DNR is finding "pristine" gold deposits in MN!

One old timer in our area claimed he knew someone that would go pan for gold in a couple nearby creeks to supplement his farming income back in the 1930s. I have thought it would be fun to try the creek at our place, but never have. There are a couple geological anomalies in our area, it would be neat to find something. We are 90 miles south of the main mining areas of MN.

You would find more gold if you busted open your old computers.

My youngest daughters godfather and his dad would take spring trout fishing trips and fall elk hunting trips to WY in years past and they would pan for gold in the mountain streams. More than a few times they paid for part or all of their trip expenses with just an afternoon or 2 of panning. Seems like a lot of hard work at face value, but when the fish and elk aren't being cooperative anyway, it is a good(and possibly profitable) way to kill a few hours in the mountains on slow days.

We are near the Tamarack Intrusion which is geological formation similar to the copper/nickel mines they are starting further north. Some people have been getting some big $$ in the area for drilling and some places were sold to the mining company. Gold was found in some samples as well and near the south part of the intrusion bedrock breaks the surface, which is supposedly the area where the old timer did some panning.

U of MN report on area:

Here is some more neat info just a few miles south of where our place is at. After drilling a 785 foot deep water well they were getting gas in their plumbing and they could light it on fire. Tests showed that it was just methane, but some crazy geologist guy wanted to drill for oil and managed to raise a bunch of money and they ended up drilling the deepest cored hole ever drilled in MN, down to 7,400 feet. Of course, no oil but interesting to read about.

U of MN analyzed the sample and the 71 page report is online:

Yeah, I think my chances would be much better out west somewhere!

Gold huh? I wouldn't quit my day job.

o_O  You don't have a day job?!? ;) :D

Odds say that is correct, but you never know! Those gold particles are coming from somewhere, and if you have copper, you've generally got at least some gold.

This was found just a couple months back, and they find small ones almost everyday.

Send them our away.. we have 3/4+ mile of prime creek bottom with leases available at $1,000 per 100 feet and also rooms to rent at $1,000 a week. We will use the old barn as a saloon and brothel to get that mining camp feeling :D.

Pffft, Don't let Art watch the money.....you'll never see any of it. ;) Rumor has it....that he drunk up all the profits of our rain dance swindle.....errrr....GIG, by now.

I have a boulder (it's big enough my FEL won't pick it up) in my yard that was dug up when they dug our basement for the house. My youngest over-heard a conversation about it being worth a few bucks (for landscaping purposes). She (hearing only part of the conversation) told her friends that it must be a big dirt cover piece of gold and that was how we had the money to build our house. OH do I wish that was the case!

I need to start a good rumor like that - drive the land prices way too high and then sell and run!!!!! Closest thing to gold I have is corn.

WB - post #11 - LOL !! Gold camp manager from way back, huh ??? And here we thought we couldn't trust you Minn. boys !!

When are you getting back to dancing? I'm getting thirsty!

There are lots of minerals to be found in the NE part of MN. Any time the earth is moving, you should be walking with your head down. I used to hunt agate up there after the spring floods or when the townships were putting new gravel on their roads.
