Difference in 2 properties

We've done some pretty intense logging on our property over the last 5 years. 3 years ago, we had all the ash trees removed before disease set in. Then this past year we clear cut a 10 acre section to let the woods regenerate with sugar maples. While standing on a logging road that separates our woods and our neighbors woods, I was left with a good feeling about all the work we have had done. It's crazy to see the difference in our properties. The first photo is our neighbors property and the 2nd photo is our woods. If you go about 400 yards further into ours is when you hit the clear cut.

If you want understory sunlight is your friend. Just keep in mind that without planting you are more than likely going to get the same types of trees as you already have. Also keep in mind that those maples (sugar) are very shade tolerant and will be browsed but once they reach beyond what the deer can access they don't have much wildlife value.
