Coppice food?

I'm no forestry "expert" - I only share what things I've seen with my own eyes. In our region, regenerated maple can be cut several times to keep browse at deer-level. Our best stump regeneration has been from oaks and maples after logging. But if we don't cage them - they get eaten to death - literally. With cages, we get good re-growth and sustainable browse & cover. We have not re-cut the OAK stump sprouts. We let those grow so we get acorn production once they get mature enough. I don't know what would happen IF we re-cut the oak stump sprouts. Never tried that.
