Chinese privet

Turkish

5 year old buck +
I’m in SW MS and I have some spots of Chinese privet that I’m wondering what to do with. These are not areas thick enough to provide bedding and most of the plants have foliage out of reach of deer. They are spots where it seems to have a dense enough canopy to shade out new growth. The first thing that comes to mind is to fell it and treat the stump to kill it. Any reason to let it resprout? In this general area, there is enough tree canopy to prevent it from being very invasive.

Either basal spray it now or foliar spray in the spring to kill it...don’t let it get going especially if you don’t have much of it now. It spreads (in large part) by birds consuming and poop often still viable seeds. The more privet you have = the more seed produced = the more birds you feed.
