Bur Oak, swo acorns

noodle

Yearling... With promise
I was finally able to get to my property this weekend and after planting every kind of acorn I could get my hands on I’ve found that the bur and swamp white oaks I planted have actually grew a little in the terrible drought we’ve had the last 6 months on central Kansas. Where can I find some viable acorns to start growing for fall planting ? I would like about 15-20 of each. If anyone has any they would like to sell or knows of a retailer that still has a few let me know. 62o-seven55-threeeight3three

If the Bur oaks produce this year I'll have plenty, but they didnt produce last year and this spring with the 2 cold spells in april may keep them from producing again. I'll let you know. I also will have some Sawtooth, Shumard, Post, Red, Blackjack if your interested.

Are you concerned about cost, or just prefer acorns? If you fall plant (plugs) you will get good survival?

Itasca Greenhouse has bur oak and swamp white oak plugs (I think)....what state are you in?

I'm in KS... I have native Burr, DCO, and Chinkapin on the place (plus some Sawtooth). They all produce most yrs but Burr didn't do much last season. I can mail you some this fall, or you can just drive down and take as much as you want.

The first pic is a tree I grew the others are ordered plugs. I prefer my tree over the circling roots when I can’t water trees as I am working out of state 11 months a year. Property is in central Kansas and I’m currently 11 hrs away. So growing acorns helps me get my fix until I can get home

I might hit you up on that offer. I’m unsure of where I will be located in the fall but I would be willing to pay for the acorns if you have time to collect a few

Thanks I have plenty of N.red and sawtooth at this time I planted a coulple Shumard and I think one survived out of 5 and I just planted a couple post this weekend. So far the bur and swo have liked my soil the best so I’m going to stick to those until next year And I can re evaluate the survivors

You can get containarized bur oaks from the Kansas Forest Service in the fall.
