Thanks. I find they gobble before fly down and for a short period afterwards as long as hens are present. They usually will respond well once the group is formed but far too often the hens don’t want any competition so lead the boys off in a different direction seemingly away from the source of the calling.
By far my most productive hours have been between 10 and 2 here during the spring hunting season when the hens separate and leave to tend their nests leaving the toms behind and more vulnerable to calls.e birds in th
If I can get a Tom to respond early and his gobbling continues to get closer he is probably alone and ends up being a dead bird if I choose to take him.
Of course they have a mind of their own, (kinda like the thought process of a female, imo) so nothing is written in stone, ever.
Maybe that’s why we find the pursuit of both so appealing, come to think of it. Those birds, being totally silent in the video were a perfect example of what I expect happens at that time of the morning and maybe later as I feel it’s too early for any breeding here. They are probably just getting acquainted with the neighborhood girls right now,
Our season turkey season starts in mid April, by then breeding will be taking place so this is a pre-season scouting setup.
