Project W: Columnar Apple Shot Plot

I grafted the Irish spire to B118. Its looking great. The rest of my attempts are not doing as well. I think it might have to do with scion storage. The Irish spire came wrapped in wet paper and I kept it that way, Chickenlittles came waxed and the scions from my own trees I did not cut...

I was hoping you could share scions next spring. I also bought the 7 currently available columnar cultivars. I know you where collecting the previous stark spire series and Maypole. Do you think you will have any material from those trees to share after your winter pruning? But given what you...

    Douglas Wormless apple

Did you convince your wife to let you get it? I too have be come obsessed with this apple. Maybe we can partner on it and split the costs. You can send me scions so I can establish my own. I just don't have the room for a full sized tree.

First deer apple/pear tree orchard help

I checked the hardiness before recommending they all fit the bill though pawpaw and chestnut are not native to that area they are hardy for it. I feel like I'm getting hate for saying no apples. Apples and Crabapples especially are great if there grown on there own roots. But going to the...

First deer apple/pear tree orchard help

Wow that harsh. I don't see what the point is to plant Honeycrips or Golden delicious for dear to eat. Its not like they are going to appreciate there delicate texture or winter storage capabilities. Was it the thing about the root stock? I was agreeing with another poster. you by an apple...

Project W: Columnar Apple Shot Plot

Hello Chickenlittle, great post I think I have read though it 2 or 3 times already. I too went all in this year and bought the 7 available cultivars from Raintree. I am interested in collecting the other cultivars previously released in the US. When your ready to send out scions please put me...

First deer apple/pear tree orchard help

I love apples and pears and I am sure deer would also. But neither are native to the US and planting cultivars for yourself is wonderful growing them unregulated in the open for dear is likely going to be to problematic and waste of money. I think the root stock issues have already been...
