Transplanting Oak Seedlings: Need Your Help

Last fall I direct seeded some white oak seedlings in my raised bed garden just to see what success I might have. This spring I have about a dozen nice seedlings that I'd like to continue growing at my camp. I'm not sure though how I should proceed. They are currently about 8" tall, look...

Whatever it is, apparently I'm a farmer of it. (and don't want to be)

Oh man! I wasn't sure what it might be, but now, I'm pretty I don't want to find out! Good Luck!

Any Year Old Seed Corn Available?

Do any feed mills or coops sell their year old seed corn at a discount? Looking for some in SE Wisconsin, or Eastern Wisconsin, as I travel through all of E. WI on my way to camp. RR corn.

    Screening a dam

I've always just used a dibble bar. Step in into the ground, create a wedge-shaped crease, drop in the rhizome them push the crease closed. Takes about 30 seconds per rhizome. Pretty simple and the results have always been good.

    Deodorize boots

I thought for a moment that you bought my boots. Mine sure smell, but not like they were sitting in a basement!

    Realistic expectations

I've enjoyed reading this thread again. It reconfirms what we are doing on our 120 acres in the U.P. of Michigan. We have owned and hunted this land for 15 years and originally intended to improve the habitat, plant food plots, and let small bucks walk. Our hope was to increase the age, size...

    Minimal Excavation Waterholes

Actually, I plan on putting in a couple of tanks/waterholes this spring. My plan to keep them full is to dig them in near the base of a slope. Then, on the uphill side, lay out a tarp, or a piece of rubber roofing, laying the edges up over some logs, and have the low corner near, and a bit...

    Minimal Excavation Waterholes

Similar to gwm I have my wife dig them. I found though that she needs 2 spades and a 5 gallon bucket of water. The bucket of water is so she can always have one spade cooling while she's heating up the other! Good system!

    Screening a dam

MG clumps, fist size or so, really take off and fill in quickly compared to those broken up into individual rhizomes. I've dug up huge clumps with the FEL and used a sawzall to cut them up into dozens of smaller clumps. Very easy and quick to propagate in other areas.

    ....hand-held electric seed spreader...

Maddog66, The one we have is up at camp so I'm not sure of the name, but it has an odd name. My guess is it's the same as the OP "Uniqwamo". Good luck der hey! You'll love it!

    ....hand-held electric seed spreader...

I have the same unit, accept ours is built for the Milwaukee Tool M18 batteries. I love it! I've had the hand crank "POS" and the Whizzer AA battery "POS" and these units are, night and day, way better! They work great on clover, brassicas, rye, radish etc. Wouldn't be without it. I highly...

Do radishes typically start growing again in the spring?

Not under normal circumstances, but perhaps this ultra mild winter in the north country has caused radishes to morph into perennials. Who knew?

    Drag Harrows for ATV?

We use an aggressive wire harrow behind an ATV. Works well to loosen up the top inch or so for planting small seed, clover, brassicas, rye. You do have to kill off and clear down to pretty bare ground however.

What is the Fix For This?

I've filled a couple of similar areas with a "corduroy road" made with cedar slabs I picked up from a guy that was sawing cedar logs. Worked really well and the slabs cost me $20 a pickup load.
