Wi youth hunt

Peeps

5 year old buck +
This weekend is Wisconsin's youth gun hunt. Who will be out with their youngsters? My son and I will be out even if it's raining. Post your stories and pics here and good luck to all.

To far from me, but good luck everyone!

If I can escape from work I'll have my oldest in the stand with me for an afternoon hunt. He isn't ready to be the "shooter" quite yet but each of the last two youth seasons we've thrown on some orange and sat over a food plot with my bow. That's youth season for us. In a year or two he should be ready to step up into the shooter role.

My son and I will be out there Saturday morning.

Good luck you guys. Taking kids hunting has been one of the most rewarding PITA I have had. They tend to be a handful, but when your right there and they get their first deer it's something you will never forget...... you see that excitement we all had all those years ago. Good luck, be safe, and teach them right.

Illinois's youth season is this weekend also, 84 degrees everyday, taking both my kids anyway!

Lots of rain and windy this morning. Sat in a hard blind. Rain has stopped and hoping for some movement.

We tried to go out this afternoon but after an hour or so the rain returned and chased us out. Tomorrow is supposed to be in the upper 70's. Doesn't feel much like deer hunting when it's this warm.

Good luck to you if you head out. This weather has been brutal. It’s either too hot out or raining. But... bucks are starting to show some signs of pre rut in the north Central part of the state. Checking the mock scrapes, and hitting the licking branches and some decent sparring going on. Another 2 weeks and things should be really interesting.

My son shot this big doe tonight. I just got done cleaning it up. It had that apple in its mouth when he shot it. Dropped it in its tracks. Don't worry he had more orange when he was hunting. IMG_1958.PNG

"One Shot" connected tonight too. It rained most of the day. Finally stopped a couple of hours before dark. In the last 20 minutes 2 does and a fawn entered the field. Our best guess was that the fawn was with the other doe, so Jake took this one at about 100 yards.

After the shot, the other 2 didn't want to leave the field. Pretty sure he took out the alpha doe and the others weren't sure what to do.

She didn't make it off the field, ran maybe 50 yards and piled up.

A good day youth hunting.

Congrats Jake!

IMG_20171007_180059032.jpg Two bucks in 7 days for this kid. He wants me to do a shoulder mount but I just spent 1100 on his bear. This is the end result of habitat work. 5 years ago this property was desert. Lots of hinge cutting, trail making , pond digging and a 3 acre soybean plot anchor has brought us here. I took it in for a European mount instead. Should look good when done.
