Once mature I'll have ripe apples from the end of july straight thru to november.

Nice group Barndog, Goldrush hangs the latest for me. If you have grouse or turkey you may want to add a few small crabapples as well - I saw grouse eating frozen crabapples from a tree while deer hunting - they will also help with pollination of your apple trees!
Good luck with your grafting!!

Just a heads-up ......... On the Franklin Cider tree thread, Wallace - Woodstock was mentioned as having the Franklins available, but I noticed they also list Centennial, Chestnut, Dolgo and Whitney crabs in shippable sizes on their crab page, and ask folks to call for info on those. They were listed at the bottom of their regular catalog listings - almost as an afterthought, and in lighter print.

Just thought I'd mention it for any guys interested in those good crabs.

I don’t know much about the Franklin, but those crabs are four good choices for the northland.

Those are great looking crabs Sandbur, I'm happy to see the Chestnut holding so late in the season. I planted one a couple years ago, so I'm anxiously waiting for it to get big enough to produce.

The last variety I wanted to add to my orchard for 2018 was an Enterprise. I noticed Cummins added some to their website on M.111 rootstocks - just what I had been waiting for. I added a couple to my order, so now I am done for the year. The six varieties I am adding this year should ripen between Mid October and Mid November.

Chestnut usually drops by the first week of October. This tree has just a few apples left

Looks like lots of deer traffic by those trees, Art. You have a good spot going there. I can't wait until all our apples and crabs are hanging full and the deer keep coming !!

I sent you a PM about the Franklin Cider apple.

Just getting started in the soft mast game putting in my first 17 last year, all crabs and pears.

Trees I have on order this year are 3 Liberty, 1 Florina Querina, 1 Snowsweet, 1 Dolgo, 1 Goldrush, 1 Jonafree, 1 Nova Scotia Crab, and 1 Seckel Pear. Also have 10 B.118 and 10 OHxF97 on order to try my hand at grafting. Apples scions I have coming are Enterprise, Ark Black, Chestnut Crab, Ida Red, and Wolf River. Pear scions are Blake's Price, Mooers, and Douglas. Also trying a wild pear near me that is loaded every year with golf ball sized fruit that slow drops starting very late and still holding a lot right now.

Nice selection, gunfun. ^^^^ That late-hanging pear sounds great.

(2) Kerr Crabapple on M7
(2) Galarina on B118
(2) Chestnut Crabapple on B118
(1) Yellow Transparent on M111

Will do some Swamp White Oak too. I just love watching them grow even though I'll probably never live long enough to see them produce much for acorns. Hope someone appreciates them someday!!!

Have a couple ~4 apple tree orchards to plant by some food plots. Want to do Zestar, Galarina, and Enterprise in those locations. Will need to do a 2019 order to finish out those locations. Then just continuing to fill in some orchards that don't need more trees but can't help myself by adding more as space allows.

I can leave in the morning with the dogs to help with the grouse infestation :). I use to love to hunt grouse before I could afford to feed the dogs. I use to do pretty good actually. Now that I have dogs, the grouse around us are gone.

WTNUT - I think grouse go in cycles, if I remember correctly. They have years of peak numbers and then they drop off for several years. Maybe someone with more knowledge on grouse can chip in.

We were supposed to be approaching peak years in Minnesota but it did not seem to materialize.

I notice peaks and troughs in many populations. Snowshoe hares when we used to have them. Also all of the rodents and also coon around my farm....squirrels of various species, cottontails, then next year ground hogs, etc.
