Hopefully I'll be competent by the time i have apples and pears to harvest. In the mean time, I'm starting from square one with cider, mead, and beer.
Don’t get discouraged at first with your cider. Ciders are notoriously difficult to brew with a clean flavor, and it will take some experimentation with temps and yeast strains. Sometimes they are best drank a month old, sometimes a year old. We did a few batches a year for several years and I always enjoyed the process.
I still haven’t done mead, but it is definitely on the list. I used to do a TON of all grain home brewing, and even worked at a brewery for a few years to learn more. It is almost as addicting as habitat work and hunting, so be forewarned! Haha
