Just got a call that my order of Norway spruce can't be filled. Anyone know who still has seedlings available? Preferably 3-0 or better. Lookin for 1000 seedlings

Who couldn't fill your order?

Most counties have a tree purchase program. You could also try Lawyernursery.com

Who couldn't fill your order?
Swanson's evergreen nursery in Niagara wi

The county tree sale is kinda pricey for the volume, county is 1.40/tree vs Swanson's was 0.25/tree I think

Try Laura's Lane out of Plainfield wi. I have ordered from them many times with great results

Paint creek has them for .25 for a 1000+ 2-0 to 3-0.Just let me get my order in first:emoji_wink: I've ordered from them and have no complaints.

Give Cold Stream Farm out of MI a look. I’ve purchased conifers from them the last four years and have no complaints. They give great volume discounts too and work with you on shipping dates.

Laura's is a great nursery. I also ordered Norways from http://mitrees.com last year and was really impressed with the trees.

Thanks guys, lauras and paint Creek both have prices I like.

In western Norway, much of the conifer growth is Sitka spruce, apparently planted by Americans after the war.

Why do all the habitat guys here like Norway spruce so much?

They are the fastest growing spruce and are pretty pest free. We plant Norways every year. Limbs stay all the way to the ground, making a great screen, winter windbreak, & bedding/security cover. One thing - bucks like to rub on them. If you want to make sure they survive, cage them for about 7 years or plant lots of them so some will not get rubbed (hopefully).

Like Brownbuck said, for me I like that they keep their branches on the bottom and I haven't had any problems with deer browsing on them like they do pines.

Thanks for the info. I will have to find a source in Ontario.

Last year I purchased 500 Norway Spruce plugs from North Central Reforestation. They arrived in great shape and were much easier to plant than the bare root seedlings that I had planted in previous years. Almost 100% survival with no watering through the summer. I would definately recommend using them.

Alpha nursery out of mi is another option

I feel Norway spruce might do better on heavier soil versus white spruce.

With your location Laura Lane would be your best option.

I like Norway's because they are almost a zero maintenance, just plant them and forget about them. They can take drought really well, deer don't browse them very hard, they grow well in all kinds of different soils and they are pretty DR in most areas. Great thermal cover and road screen trees good for all kinds of wildlife.

Well I'm sold on the Norway spruce plugs. Now I just need to find a good supplier in Ontario.
