Willow Cuttings Question

I cut a pile a week or so ago, and put in water (also some dogwood that haven't rooted yet). Went on vacation and came back to them rooting out already (in my head I thought it would take longer). How long can I leave them in the water before I have to plant them? Can they root out for another week?

It shouldn't be a problem to let them go another week. But when you go to pot/plant them, be careful. The roots are extremely fragile.

You can leave them in water for a long time if you want the roots just keep growing. But best to pot them

I had good luck letting the roots get over an inch long, but as mentioned the roots are really fragile. If you keep them watered after potting they will be fine though.

I’m curious why you decided to root them in water rather then just poke the cutting in the ground and let them root where you want them. Not that it’s wrong, just maybe an extra step or two.
