Wild pear seedlings

Angus 1895

5 year old buck +
Hello I decided to buy some wild pear seedlings from Willis orchards.

has anyone done so in the past?

any insight to share?

Thanks

I ordered 10 pear seedlings from Nativ Nurseries and all have survived so far. They were potted for 4 years and have been in the ground for a year. This will be their 6th growing season coming up. They have grown well to be potted for so long. I have some that are pushing 9 feet tall.

The only pic I have of one at the moment.

I planted about 20 from Nativ Nurseries this past year. They were bare-root seedlings at planting and about 12 inches tall each. By the end of the season, I think the tallest were around 18 inches. I have about half in miracle tubes. All are in remesh cages.

I bought 2 seedlings years ago to plant them in a swampy area and see if they would survive and then decide if it was a good enough place for future plantings. I don't have any pics but that was probably 5 or 6 years ago and they are 8 or 9 feet tall now. No blossoms yet so I don't know about fruit yet, but if they are not ideal I can just top work them.

Could these be grafted with patent scions later if they establish?

They can be used as rootstock for named cultivars. They work great!
