Wild crab apples

NT179

5 year old buck +
I been finding lots of wild fruit trees on our farm.Saskatoons, chokecherrys, cranberrys ,plums and apple trees to be exact.I found 1 apple just off the edge of our hay field that is 4-5 inches in dia and straight up like the poplar its with. There are no side branches. If I cut out the poplar, will it start branching out ?This is the only one I found so far like this. The rest have branching on them. Thanks in advance.

Take the popple out and get some light to it.

Somewhere Maya has a comment about injuring the bark just above a bud to stimulate branch growth. It seems liek it has to be done at a certain time of the eyar that is quickly approaching.

Maybe someone can find the link.
