The only downside is not being able to position trees where you want them. I tend to do the sex change for the purpose of feeding deer. I've traded scions with different folks and bought named varieties. I'm trying to get a broad range of drop times across my property. For attraction to a specific location, planting mast trees can be profitable. I prefer faster producing trees for this. That doesn't mean I won't through a persimmon or two in the cluster, I just include faster fruiting trees in the group as well.
I agree... I have some on field boarders, I will not hunt them but would like more fruit for the population and turkeys etc. Might as well, they are not doing anything in their current state! hahaha
Yoder or anyone else, if you want any scion wood let me know. Dads tree is young (only about 12 ft tall) and breaks the limbs with fruit. The drop mid to late Oct to mid Nov or so. Sweet fruit. If you want any let me know I can send it.

Thanks for the offer and I'm sure others will take you up on it. That drop time is about what my native persimmons have. Many of the named varieties drop early and I got some from folks that don't drop until Dec and Jan. I'm about finished with persimmons. I'm now waiting for them to ramp up in production volume. I'll still graft a few each spring as I find them and they get large enough. With persimmons mostly in my rear view mirror, I'm turning to apples to see if I can get some that are productive without maintenance like persimmons.
