When to apply Urea

I planted my Brassicas on 8/1 and over the last couple days have over seeded Rye/Wheat/Oats and peas. The Brassicas seem to be growing well. We are going to get a good rain on Saturday so I thought about spreading urea on my plots for the brassicas tomorrow. I read that you shouldn’t add urea right after seeding as the ammonia kills the seeds and seedlings. How long should I wait? Season opens 10/1 in VT. Thank you for any thoughts or advice.

Spread when you have a good rain withing 48 hours, the sooner the rain the better. I have never had any issues.

Spread it anytime before the rain, sometimes I've tilled it in just before planting with no problems. I usually wait now just to see when they need it.

I'm just going to throw this out there, but if you can avoid a rain with more than 3/4", it would be ideal. Urea is so mobile and water soluble that you might lose some through the soil via leaching. Some rain is better than none, but if you live on site and can monitor it, I would.
