What do you think? I have an idea but not sure. Off a card I pulled this weekend.

I would guess a German Sheppard dog.

That's what I was thinking, but if thats the case he is along ways from home then that is for sure.

My first reaction was German Shepherd.

agree, german shepherd

He might be a long way from home. But, what you probably don't see in your trail-cam is a picture of the trespasser that's out letting his dog run around on your property.

If I figure out the owner, is there any grounds for action against the owner?

I would go with German Shepard, but could it be a wolf? There are some black colored variations in WI.

Don't know about WI but in MO a dog can't trespass. If the owners with it that's a different story.

I agree. I was trying to see where the OP is from to narrow down the possibilities. Frozen Tundra didn't tell me a lot, but I figured it was cold, permafrost, Krummholz, ptarmigan, musk ox, that kind of thing.

None of my wolves ever look that healthy. That's one well fed beast, with a nice coat.

South Dakota, but at the moment it feels more like the frozen tundra.

I assumed you were a packer fan from northern WI. They always say "from the frozen tundra of Lambeau field". lol Do you have any wolves over that way? It seems we are getting a lot of cougars migrating from the badlands. It is all over the news, there is a cougar running around in Brookfield(a suburb of Milwaukee). It went on its hind legs looked in a lady's picture window yesterday.

At this point, I believe everyone is correct in assuming it is a german shepard.
There are Mountain lions that have had their picture taken only 5 miles away from the farm.
And a pair of wolves has been spotted in the foothills aways away from the property.

But I have a suspicion of who's dog it is.

I like dogs, mans best friend ya know. I hope for his sake he doesn't find his way into my snare line.
Just don't like having canines running the ground at this time of year.
Unneeded added stress on the herd.

If you are trapping legally, I would suggest calling your neighbor and letting him know you have snares out.

Legally you probably cannot intentionally kill the dog unless it is causing damage to an animal or property you own.

You could probably sue in civil court for the dog causing problems with wildlife on your property, but this is probably a huge waste of time and money.

Not worth the time involved
