What insects are these?

Had these on my apple trees. They seemed to prefer my spruce trees more. Some sort of caterpillar / grub thing lived in them. Not sure if sprays killed them, removed them by hand. They used pieces of leaves as camo for the cocoon. Saw them late July and into august. Pic is dated august 29th. Seemed to be trees somewhat near my bug zapper and near white spruce trees.

Bag Worms , I've seen them on my blue spruce trees

Those are full of eggs, probably a thousand each, pick them off and smash them

I saw a thing on television today where liberals are wanting us to eat bugs and stop eating cows. Looks like you are all set, and they are already wrapped in a nice looking tortilla.

Definitely bag worms. You can't kill them with insecticide in that stage the cocoon is silk and water tight.
Spray your trees with Malathion insecticide the first week of July.

Been fighting them for years on my green giants in the yard.

Got to rethink bug zapper placement. Dont want it too close to trees or too close to the pool.

Not sure if bug zappers are good or bad for apple trees. Almost think a little of both. Kills yet attracts....
