Too hot to hunt?

bigboreblr

5 year old buck +
Was supposed to hunt tomorrow morning at the farmland I hunt. However, I blew a tire on my trailer. So, Im going to tomorrow. Could of crammed the trailer and went tonight. Weather is 54 low 70 high where I hunt.

I have a 110 quart igloo cooler and freeze a bunch of 1 liter club soda bottles to chill a quarter deer down with. Got a spare regular sized fridge I can chill quarters and straps in. A bit better than the Average hunter.

What do you guys do about the warm weather early season?

Always hunt.

Warmest stretch of an early bow season I ever remember. I’ve only been out couple times. Cool weather can come anytime!

Typically I am close to home so I have no worries. Retrieve, gut and hang if its under 50 degrees. Otherwise it gets bone out and put in coolers with ice until I can get it to the processor. I shot my once in a lifetime bull elk in Nebraska many years ago and it was hot then. Hotter than I would have liked, but it was what it was. Quartered it put into "sacrificial" sleeping bags, packed ice around it and high tailed it for home 6 hours away.

I have some mature bucks moving just after dark and in morning but been too busy to shoot enough to go yet.Daughter killed a good buck with ML and saw several at least 4.5 years.

I typically hunt in the heat but am very picky because I don't want to screw with cleaning a deer in the heat. Then regret those life choices while sitting in 12 degree/gusty winds on the last evening of season.

We might see those temps in another month

Was 92 degrees today. Supposed to be 94 tomorrow. Just hunt

One of my hunters took this 18” ten pt today in 90 plus temps.

If it's warm, I can't stay awake.

My watch registered 100 on my run yesterday. This is stupid.

Mid 70s day low 50s night. Too hot. All the leaves fell off and shade is a premium.

I try to get out regardless of the weather, as the deer will be moving at some point. Our first harvest of the season was in the last afternoon when the temps were in the 80s.
When in the field, I debone the deer in the field, place the meat in bags and put them in the cooler with ice. I’ve gone three days and the ice is still there and the meat is ready for trimming or the freezer when I get home. By deboning and throwing in the cooler at or near the place of harvest I don’t have to worry about spoilage or transportation regulations.
Having lots of frozen milk jugs plus some bagged ice seems to provide three or four days of ice (in a Coleman cooler, not a YETI).

I rarely hunt the first two weeks of season, because we can easily be in the low 90’s here in Texas.
Maybe if I had more private access and could have a few bags of ice ready to fill a chest cavity on the way to the processor, but in the 90’s you almost can’t quarter and pack out any distance without spoilage.

Today was 91° tomorrow is 89°.

Although, a buddy did shoot a for yesterday on public land. He was only 1/3 of a mile back, and shot her early, so I don’t think he has to worry about the meat on her. He passed up a dandy of a public land 10-point for around here because he was at 26 yards (he has a self imposed 20 yard limit for his longbow).

So, don’t use the heat as an excuse for the deer, not to move in daylight. Just be realistic, with the added difficulty that it brings.

I have a 110 quart igloo cooler. I take a insulated hopping bag and put one of those mylar freezer bags inside of it Then I stuff it ful of 1 lite frozen club soda bottles. Just water in them. Might be something you can do in texas there. Though a bit different, do that when the fishing is real hot.

EHD, had that hre in NY 3 years ago. Meat OK to eat? Thought it was. Alot of the herd died here in my area. Just starting to get some density again. Other places I hunt in the state not affected. Just home.

Early and hot is best time to pattern a buck. I still have a bachelor herd with 11 bucks in it. They are going to start to scatter pretty soon.
