Ticks--

Insect Shield is good for 70 washings or the life of the garment.

Does it say that on their site? I only saw "lasts five times longer".

Good podcast on Fist full of dirt with a Dr. that got Alfagal,I think I 4 or 5 off me tonight and I didn't go in the trees ,just the food plot.I started spraying my seat covers in truck because they were there when I got in truck sometimes

I saw this the other day. This unscientific experiment found that putting tea tree and/or peppermint oil on your pants might be something to try along with permethrin.

I have a product that has both, plus a few other oils. Seems to work against mosquitos and blackflies. Never tried it against ticks. I'll post details when I'm back in Ontario.

Dead down wind is selling 1 gallon jug for about $40 and says no odor. I have been using a brand for human clothing and has a odor. Been head deep in timber last two months and not one tick or chigger. I am sold on treating clothes after this.

I just sprayed several pairs of jeans, outdoor pants, socks and shirts with a 0.5% permethrin treatment. I've gotten several chigger bites this season despite DEET, so am going to double up. No ticks have bitten me so far, but I've removed a few.

Any substance to this Bill Gates and Tick illness story?

Using my research, plagiarism and fact checking tools used for academics, there does not appear to be any substance to the Gates/Tick illness connection. Of course, one could argue the research/plagiarism/fact checking programs use Microsoft based software :-)

Even Medical doctors and epidemiologists have figured out conspiracy theories and correlation theories drive the click/read algorithms. These algorithms are the key to recognition and making money for many folks who a generation ago would have been laughing stocks.

Kinda what I learned too 356 after doing more research on this issue. Seems to be allot of baseless theories....tho some turn to find more base with time. Recently the spotted tick has been making news. Some say that is another "planted" scheme. It's really hard to sort the wheat from the chaff some days. We used to rely on the press to do that.....not so much these days.

I've learned we have a pretty good bunch of fact checkers right here. grin

This year I sprayed the area around my pole shed and cabin and implements with a product called "tallstar". It's used allot by farmers / ranchers for various bugs. Seems to have a good effect around my yard so far. I think it really shines on Asian beetles and such....but it's supposed to be good for ticks too. Anyone else with experience with it?

I heard that 50% of the residence of Martha’s Vineyard have Alpha Gal. Not all
Allergic to red meat but test positive. That seemed crazy to me.

I use one about like Talstar. Taurus SC. Have used it several years around the doors, windows and foundation for ants,Asian beetles and box elder bugs. It also works on ground hornets. Seems to last longer than permethrin.

I hate using any kind of sprays, but chiggers are bad here this year. Ticks are too, but I can check myself and take care of them when getting in the shower.

Does anyone use the Sawyer or other brands with 20% Picaridin? Will it work for keeping chiggers away if you only spray it on clothing?

We are going camping later today and I will be spraying permethrin around the campsite grass area where we have our chairs and fire pit.

While 20% Picaridin is great for repelling insects, and I used to use it, it is meant primarily for your skin and outer layer of clothing. If you want to actually kill ticks and mosquitoes on contact, pre-treat your clothes with 0.5% Permethrin.

Talstar works great if you don't mind indiscriminately killing insects. The active ingredient is bifenthrin, which has been mentioned by others in earlier posts. I use something similar at work to help keep insects from entering our production area.

Does permethrin actual kill ticks? Twice put a tick on treated clothes and they did not like it. After one min of hot footing it I let them fall off. They could not wait to fall off but never saw them die.

It does. I've found dead ticks on my dog after treating him with permethrin.

Yes! Kills those bastards. Alpha gal disease. I have zero evidence that a scientist has caused increased incidence. However, I heard one jackass discuss how this would “be good for our planet “. If some f-er did gain of function and/or released ticks etc then I would be in favor of prison + torture + ruining his/her life. I would throw that guy in a jail cell and throw away the key. The fist full of dirt podcast played some audio of some a-hole wanting to spread alpha gal. WTF!
You’re not paranoid if they are really out to get you.

Not being able to eat meat would be absolutely terrible. Not sure how that would be good for the planet, that is super wacky.

I treat my clothes with a homemade mix of permethrin. I get the concentrate at TSC. It works really good. I picked up a bag of granular lawn and yard insect killed and sprinkled that around the exterior of the house and used my spreader to pit it on the lawn around the house. It wiped out the ants and other crawling bugs. I sometimes spray Bifenthrin around the landscaping and on the house. It knocks down the skeeters and I’ve noticed that the wasps don’t build nests on my house anymore.
