Stuff getting hard to find powder, primers, etc?

bigboreblr

5 year old buck +
Went to bass pro shops in Atlantic City, NJ every powder they had was in stock and all kind of primers. Didn't really need any smokeless myself, but got a selection for the oldest kid. I give him some heads or a can of powder each time he plows the driveway.

Anybody looking for harder to find powder or other stuff? Been looking for 2f black powder for my new flintlock. Got some, but I am low on 2f.

Saw triple 7 FFFg powder at powder valley. Thought someone was looking for that. I know blackhorn 209 is real tough.

Hodgdon, Viht, ramshot powders are pretty well stocked these days. Best in quite a few years. Alliant is still hit or miss but has been better than it has been since early in ukraine/russia war.

Primers are pretty flush and seem to be coming down in price.

Has been Blackhorn 209 piles in scheels for quite a while.

It's all just so damn expensive though! I still have a fair bit of powder that was 30-40% of today's prices at time of purchase and I've only been handloading for a little over a decade.

I didn't think anybody carried black powder anymore due to BATFE regulation changes some years ago, making it nearly impossible to comply with. (meaning cost wise, you'd never ever sell enough BP to recoup the cost)

I've always ordered it from Maine Powder House, Powder Valley or even Graf and Sons.

What do you mean about regulation changes?

Big places to order online look like theyre out of some popular powders, but not a ton is out of stock. USe winchester 748 for both 30-30 and 308 and imr4227 to slow down the big bores. Plenty of that.

maine powder house seems closed since the spring. They can not find powder. I have used graf's and powder inc for goex blackpowder. Theyre out of 2f, but have 3f. I have plenty of 3f. Wanted to be easy on the custom inlets in the stock with slower 2f powder.

Blackpowder has to be stored separately than regular gunpowder. It is much easier to light off. Old powder rooms centuries ago used to use copper nails for the floor instead of metal. Seems hard to believe but modern militaries including the US use a huge amount of blackpowder still. A major manufacturer changed hands and was closed for awhile, Goex. The war in ukraine is probably puting a strain on supply too.

Not substitue in flintlocks. Using a light spark to light things off. Some folks have filled the pan with real blackpowder, then put a bit in the barrel, then add some pyrodex. The black side of some muzzleloading pellets is real blackpowder.

No.

Its a good time to buy reamers and barrels. I heard someone had primers for $50/1000 recently.
I am still working on 2008.

CCI were 9.99 for 100 at bass pro. Bought 500 or so since I am scooping up a few lbs of powder. Screwed up though, bought more large rifle primers. Didn't notcie 450 bushmaster is small rifle, atleast for hornady brass. Oldest kid had some for me.

What you need the reamer for?

Gotta say I got a bit of an itch to build an AR. 20" A2 in .223. Been 223'less since 2012 or so.

Because all I have is .243w, .308w, and .300saum.
I want a 6ppc with a .274 neck.
Maybe a 6saum.
.22LR match
And something else based on the .404 Jeffery

22lr match caught my ears. Most of my shooting is 22lr, although offhand, so super accurate ammo needed for bench shoots aren't really needed. MY goto is cci standard velocity 40gr solids. paco kelly accurizer?

Lacking a long range place to shoot. Got 230 yards at camp right at the cabin.

Barrel vice and action wrench, etc. Can be bought with or without a 36x Luepold BR Scope with fine x hairs.

Package deal available. I have not shot this rifle for about 20 years.
