Spruce & pine chipping for mulching trees

Yearling... With promise
We had a bunch of ice storm damage this year and we rented a large chipper to clean up some of the brush. Is it OK to use those chippings for mulch on my other tress I planted over the last few years? Should I just use it for other conifers or is it alright on poplars and maples as well? I will be putting down weed mat first if it matters. Thanks

I think as long as it is dried already, it should be fine.

Most commercial mulch you buy in bags at the store is pine or cedar. No reason not to use it.

Thanks for the replies! They are fresh chipping from trees that were alive, that's why I was concerned.

Some folks leave a few inches of air gap between the mulch and tree base.
