Southern Crabapple

TreesuitSC

5 year old buck +
I planted 5 bare root southern crabapple trees today.

Anyone have any experience with them?

We found some growing this year and were really amazed at how loaded they were and how the deer were hammering them.

Seems like it would make a great early season tree.

I would love to plant them, but the lack of disease resistance makes it hard to justify in my mind. I would rather pay more for a variety that is proven resistant to some of the common diseases

M.angustifolia?
Most are CAR susceptible, some more than others, but I've never noticed it impacting fruit production.
My dad had an 'orchard' of native crabs he'd collected around east AL/west GA. I have a root sucker from his best producer here in KY...gets a little CAR, but still produces heavily...deer love the fruits!
