This year I decided to do a little something different with my week off to deer hunt. It all started about 6 years ago when I met "we will call him George". He is a retired marine with two purple hearts that then went on to be a local sheriff after he recovered from his injuries. 20 years later, he retired from the police force and lives not far from a small piece of property I have in Jackson, GA where my mother lives. He and his wife have been very helpful when my mother needed help with small things and they have saved me several trips up there over the last few years and never asks for anything in return.
This year he had one request. "George" has been told he does not have very long to live, and he asked that I help him take one more deer before he passes. Of course I obliged, and we worked it out so that he could hunt my place this past week. Luckily it only took him two days to get the job done and we were able to achieve the goal on Veterans day. While he did not want to be pictured, he was open to me posting this and the pictures of the deer he took with my late fathers rifle.
He made a perfect neck shot on a running buck that dropped in his tracks.
